Economic transformation in the classroom

Social and Solidarity Economy and Ethical Finance educational itineraries
A teaching resource aimed secondary school pupils between 14 and 16 years old.

The Department of Education and the Department of Work, Social Affairs and Families, together with the Catalonia Social Economy Association (AESCAT) and the Confederation of Cooperatives of Catalonia, have promoted the creation of a program to highlight the social and solidarity economy and ethical finance. It is designed to be included in the collective entrepreneurship projects that are part of the economics and entrepreneurship curricula in secondary schools.

The program is created to include practical and specific education on the topic of social economy in the curriculum of Catalan schools. Is focuses on how the social economy contributes to the creation of democratic and people-centred companies, the generation of stable and quality work, and sustainable growth rooted in local territories.

METODOLOGY

The Social Economy and Ethical Finance Educational Itinerary consists of a set of 5 teaching modules that trace a sequential path to understanding the key aspects of this economic perspective. The material is designed to be taught in the classroom, either independently by teachers, or with the support of external trainers specialized in social economy and ethical finance. It is a versatile educational proposal, which can be applied both in the physical classroom and online and it’s based on problem-based learning (PBL) methodology.

The modular structure allows each teaching team to enrol in the number of modules they consider appropriate. This training itinerary also teaches of basic skills in social sciences, mathematics and culture and values, as well as transversal personal and social skills.

This project is complemented by teacher training with recognized credits from the Department of Education.
