Confederation of Cooperatives of Catalonia

We are a non-profit business organization made up of Catalonia’s cooperative federations.

If we join forces, we multiply capabilities

Mission

The Confederation of Cooperatives of Catalonia brings together, leads and represents the cooperative movement in Catalonia and is the highest interlocutor with the public administration. It strengthens cohesion, disseminates and promotes the cooperative model in line with the cooperative principles of the International Cooperative Alliance.

Vision

The Confederation of Cooperatives of Catalonia will build and safeguard a public image that highlights the values that make cooperativism an inclusive, open, transformative and sustainable socio-economic model.

Values

The Confederation bases its work on the following shared values: cooperation, autonomy, cohesion, participation, feminism and connection to the territory. These shared and socialised values complement the cooperative principles and the commitments linked to social responsibility.

People, planet, purpose

Because a solid and efficient business model, the common good, sustainable growth, participation, shared agreements, work–life balance, solidarity and community define who we are. Because people come first.

Because environmental awareness, a commitment to sustainability, climate justice, trust in collective responses, the territory and the pursuit of a desirable future underpin our projects. Because the planet comes first.

Because cooperation, democratic governance, social responsibility, the commitment to a fairer future, community-building, values-driven innovation, quality as a principle and a pledge to tomorrow give meaning to everything we do. Because purpose comes first.

Internal organisation

CoopCat’s governing bodies are the General Assembly (made up of all members of the boards of each cooperative federation in Catalonia) and the Governing Council (made up of the federations’ presidents or those designated by their boards).

The Governing Council is the administrative body subordinated to the General Assembly. Its members represent the federations elected by the Assembly and reflect the diversity of the cooperative movement.

The Governing Council works to showcase the breadth and richness of the cooperative movement and to act as a lever for socio-economic change. To do so, it organises its work into strategic pillars structured in areas or committees, assigning each member federation a responsibility.

In addition, the technical team is responsible for developing and implementing the actions entrusted by the Governing Council. The technical structure consists of one person in charge of management and administration, and another who carries out technical, communication and administrative tasks.

Specifically, the organisation is regulated in Title II, on federations and the Confederation of Cooperatives of Catalonia, articles 145, 146 and 148. Law 4/2008, of 24 April, Book Three of the Civil Code of Catalonia, on legal persons, also applies. In addition, the bylaws set out the organisation’s internal functioning.

Corporate social responsibility

The 2006 General Assembly of the Confederation of Cooperatives of Catalonia approved the organisation’s social responsibility policy, which entails the expression and adoption of a set of commitments linked to social responsibility that are embedded at the core of the Confederation’s strategy. The Confederation also has a CSR officer who ensures compliance with this policy, oversees the related processes and evaluates their results.
