Social and Solidarity Economy Legal Basis

Since its constitution in 2017, the Catalonia Social Economy Association (AESCAT) has been promoting a process of advocacy for and and recognition of the social and solidarity economy (ESS) in Catalonia. One of the strategies to achieve this has been the work carried out to develop the future Law of the social and solidarity economy.

At the end of 2020, the Catalan government presented the document detailing the legal bases of the future law. This document is the result of a collective process of construction where the five founding organizations of AESCAT and their member base participated.

The goals of the law established in the document are to establish a legal framework for the social and solidarity economy; to encourage and promote this economic model, and to gain recognition and institutional representation.
