International Day of Cooperatives

The General Assembly of the United Nations, in resolution 49/155, encourages governments, international organizations, specialized bodies and relevant national and international cooperative organizations to celebrate annually, from 1995, the International Day of Cooperatives on the first Saturday of July.

The aim of this celebration is to raise awareness about cooperatives, to highlight the contributions of the cooperative movement with regard to the resolution of the main issues addressed by the United Nations and to strengthen and expand the alliances between the international cooperative movement and other actors.
